Gareth Bale has become the most expensive player in history after joining Real Madrid for a record €100 million deal eclipsing the €93 million the same club paid for Christiano Ronaldo to his for club Manchester United. Bale who has been instrumental in the impressive show Tottenham Hotspurs have showed in the recent past has been in the transfer news for some time now and most people were waiting for the confirmation of his move.
Real have agreed to a cash deal that will be paid in three installments. The player is expected to sign a six year contract worth €10m a year after taxes. Bale had informed the Spurs of his desire to leave during pre-season tour of Hong Kong in July. This shocked most fans but the club seemingly couldn't handle his growing reputation and importance. Bale is last year’s PFA player of the year.
Spurs will be hoping to conclude a €35m move for Roma winger Erik Lamela. The deal is expected to go through in the next 48 hours. The Argentine international is expected to step into Bale’s shoes.
Though not officially a Real Madrid player, he is expected to be welcomed into the club with pomp and glamour. Pictures emerged on Friday showing the club setting a stage for his presentation to fans.
